Important Information about Thrush and Kopec Naturals Thrush Relief for Mom and Baby.

What is thrush?

Thrush is a yeast infection that occurs when the bacteria Candida, which normally occurs in the body, grows out of control. Thrush is common in babies and older adults, but can also occur while nursing. Thrush while nursing can occur in baby’s mouth, on baby’s bare bottom, (diaper rash) and often exists in the intestinal tract as well. Mom may also have an overgrowth in her intestinal tract even without intestinal symptoms, as well as on her breasts. Eliminating the overgrowth of yeast is crucial, but equally important is restoring the balance between yeast and healthy bacteria in your system.

What are the symptoms of baby thrush?

The most common symptoms of thrush in babies are white patches on the inside of baby’s mouth and tongue. It looks a little like cottage cheese and is often mistaken for milk curds. Mom should avoid wiping these patches away (mistaking them for milk) as it causes baby a great deal of discomfort. Baby may also demonstrate a sore throat, redness on the bottom (diaper rash), excessive gas, bloating and irritability. Mom’s symptoms may include white patches on the nipples, a burning sensation after feedings accompanied with nursing pain and discomfort. Thrush can also cause baby to not latch on and off properly and nipple compression may occur.

Why is thrush so difficult to clear?

Thrush while nursing is difficult to clear because mom and baby pass the yeast back and forth. Yeast also grows every hour and a half, so yeast has a very likely chance of spreading, making thrush extremely uncomfortable. Thrush is also difficult to clear because the offending foods (such as sugar) are often a struggle to eliminate from the diet due to the cravings sugar can cause.

How should I use Thrush Relief for Mom and Baby?

Thrush Relief for Mom can be used every two-three hours and after feedings to suffocate the yeast before it multiplies and after the exchange of yeast that occurs during a feeding.

Thrush Relief for Baby can be used on the same time frame, including at least once or twice during nighttime sleep, by swabbing the white patches on the tongue and other specific places you notice the white patches with Thrush Relief for Baby on a cotton swab or your finger.  Be careful not to wipe or rub the yeast patches off as this can be painful and uncomfortable for baby and may cause her appetite to diminish.

Thrush Relief for Baby can be used on diaper rash as well, but a better remedy is Babees Bum specifically designed for diaper rash.

What else should I do to eliminate yeast overgrowth and restore balance?

  1. It is important to completely eliminate certain foods that contribute to yeast overgrowth while treating thrush and for two weeks following the last indication of a yeast infection. Foods that spread yeast overgrowth are sugar in all forms, this includes the following: sugar, sucrose, brown sugar, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup,  fructose, glucose, honey, maltodextrin, maple syrup, aspartame, splenda, stevia, dextrose, equal, NutraSweet, saccharin, manitol, sorbitol and xylose.  Avocadoes are a great food source to eat to help reduce sugar cravings, lubricate the intestines, and provide essential fatty acids often missing during nursing. Other foods to eliminate during an outbreak are all products made with cow’s milk except plain yogurt, fruit juices, and products made with white flour.
  2. Avoid the use of diaper wipes on baby while infected. Wipes often encourage yeast overgrowth. Use a damp paper towel or cotton wash cloth instead.
  3. Avoid using any products, soaps, baby washes, shampoos containing Lauryl sulfates, especially Sodium Lauryl sulfate, also known as Sodium Laureth sulfate on both mom and baby.
  4. Mom should consider taking an acidophilus supplement to increase the level of good bacteria in the body.
  5. Mom needs to make sure of getting adequate drinking water. To be sure, drink half your weight in fluid ounces every 24 hours. Flushing yeast out of the system is also important to restoring balance.
  6. Check baby’s latch to make sure a proper latch has occurred.

What else should I know about Thrush Relief for Mom and Baby?

Thrush Relief for Baby contains a gentle but safe formulation designed for baby. While in some situations baby’s thrush will resolve on its own, Thrush Relief for Baby will provide the necessary acids such as linoleic, caprylic to suffocate the yeast, but also contains the vital component MCT.  MCT is short for medium-chain triglycerides, one of the most essential fatty acids available. MCT is already contained in breast milk, although MCT’s may be depleted in nursing moms suffering from thrush or mastitis. MCT are given to premature infants, are found in all infant formulas and are found in certain IV solutions in the hospital. MCT are easily absorbed and digested even without pancreatic enzymes (which do not develop until the first molar appears) and are a key to anyone overcoming injury or illness. Thrush Relief for Mom and Baby is the only remedy to contain MCT, essential for healing.
