Important Information about Heartburn and Kopec
Naturals Heartburn Relief and Pregnancy Heartburn Relief.
What is heartburn and what causes it?
Heartburn occurs when the
body creates extra gastric juices (stomach acid) to digest a particular food
that the body may determine is too difficult to digest with the normal amount
of stomach acid. This extra acid, in a sense, overfills the stomach cavity
spilling into the valve between the stomach and the esophagus. The burning
sensation is the feeling of this acid in the valve and on occasion in the
esophagus as well. But, stomach acid is essential to nutrient absorption.
Heartburn can be a message from our body that what we ate was too
difficult to digest with normal amounts of stomach acid. Heartburn happens more
in pregnancy for two reasons, one the extra hormones soften the valve between
the stomach and the esophagus allowing stomach acid to travel up the esophagus
more easily, and two because the body is trying to be extra sure food is
digested properly and nutrients are properly passed on to your baby.
What is a transdermal remedy and how does it work?
A transdermal remedy uses the skin as an orifice to bring medicine
directly into the bloodstream. A transdermal remedy enters the skin and moves
into the bloodstream by passing through cell membranes where the ingredients
are identified by the body and taken to where the body needs it most. A
transdermal remedy for heartburn can be an important way to achieve better
digestive health because you are not using an already compromised digestive
system to do the work. Using a
transdermal remedy is a little different than you may be used to. Using a
transdermal remedy asks you to think differently about your skin, and asks you
to think differently about the way you deal with a condition or problem you’ve
been experiencing by rubbing oil on your chest and throat to relieve symptoms.
Although this application seems like a new and novel way to take care of an
internal condition, transdermal remedies are gaining more and more scientific
recognition.
Rubbing oil on your chest,
neck and throat, and then breathing in the aroma takes us back to ancient times
of being anointed with oil by either a priest or a physician, actually
transdermal remedies formulated from essential oils and carrier oils were the
very first medicines. When you rub oil on specific places, you are in close
proximity to some of your body’s main arteries allowing the oil to take the
quickest path to the inside of your bloodstream.
Why should I avoid antacids?
Antacids can cause a number
of unwanted problems that may or may not be linked back to the antacid. Here
are some of the problems that can be associated with antacid use:
1. Poor Digestion: When stomach acid is depleted the body may not
properly absorb folic acid, ascorbic acid, beta carotene, iron, calcium,
magnesium and zinc. Stomach acid is also necessary for adequate bile flow and
pancreatic enzyme release, both of which are necessary to proper digestion.
Food may then travel into the intestines before it is properly broken down.
When food is not digested properly proteins can be released into the
bloodstream or pass into the large intestine causing diarrhea, bloating and
gas.
2. High Risk of Infection and Food Allergies: Regular use of antacids
can increase the risk of gastro-intestinal infections and food allergies. When
the body is constantly dealing with undigested food particles, the body may
start to identify that particular food source as allergen and may trigger an
immune system response. When the acid/alkaline balance is disrupted the
environment can become a breeding ground for bad microbes which may lead to
gastro-intestinal infections.
3. Long Term Harm: Over time, the stomach will sense a reduction in
necessary stomach acid and will begin to manufacture even more stomach acid to
break down food. The body is designed to work a certain way and will do its
best to maintain all systems. The continued depletion of stomach acid will
alter the digestive system to work properly.
4. High Risk of Kidney Infection: Calcium carbonate is an ingredient
in many antacids which can product a rise in blood calcium levels which can
cause distress to the kidneys.
5. Aluminum Exposure: Aluminum is an ingredient in many antacids and
has been associated with Alzheimer, rickets and phosphate depletion.
How should I use Heartburn Relief or Pregnancy
Heartburn Relief?

episode of heartburn, as needed by rubbing the oil on your chest and throat.
Repeat if necessary. During pregnancy, use Pregnancy Heartburn Relief before
sleep to help with heartburn increased by being in a horizontal position.
Heartburn Relief may be used regulary to improve
digestive health over the long term.
What else can I consider to improve my health in this
area?
It is important to consider that
certain foods can contribute to chronic heartburn. Foods to consider that may
contribute to heartburn are:
1. Sugar in all forms, this
includes the following: sugar, sucrose, brown sugar, high fructose corn syrup,
corn syrup, fructose, glucose, honey,
maltodextrin, maple syrup, aspartame, splenda, stevia, dextrose, equal, NutraSweet,
saccharin, manitol, sorbitol and xylose.
Avocadoes are a great food source to eat to help reduce sugar cravings,
lubricate the intestines, and provide essential fatty acids.
2. Other acidic foods to
consider avoiding are red meat,
products made with cow’s milk, fruit juices, alcohol, coffee, and products made with white flour.
3. Processed foods made from
white flour are extremely difficult
to digest and can cause difficulties regardless of symptoms ranging from
gastro-intestinal difficulties, nausea, skin rashes and outbreaks such as
eczema, yeast infections, to depression, irritability or hyperactivity.
Consider eliminating each of
these foods one week at a time, to determine whether one or more are a cause to
your heartburn.
