AVS

AVS (Address Verification System) is a system that attempts to match the billing address that your customers enter in the Billing Address fields during checkout. When the credit card entered is authorized, AVS checks to see if the cardholder’s address entered during checkout matches the address information on file with the issuing bank. AVS returns codes that match AVS Rules set by the merchant based on an Order Minimum about the address such as if the address and or zip/postal code match.

AVS is one of the informational tools in Risk Tools that helps merchants make decisions about which transactions to accept or flag or follow-up with the customer or issuing bank. AVS allows the merchant to set up rules to flag or accept transactions based on address and zip/postal code.

NOTE: Turbify provides Risk Tools to Turbify Store merchants for informational purposes only and does not represent or warrant that merchant use of Risk Tools will reduce or eliminate fraudulent or bad credit or debit card transactions initiated by their store customers.

AVS Rules
AVS Rules are based on the codes returned by the Address Verification System (AVS). The codes used by AVS Rules include:
  • Address OK, Zip/Postal Code wrong
  • Address wrong, Zip/Postal code OK
  • Address and Zip/Postal code wrong
  • System is not available
  • Verification is not on card

View AVS Codes

Based on the codes returned for a particular credit card authorization, you can set the AVS Rules to automatically accept or flag orders. Accepted orders will submit. Flagged orders will submit and appear "flagged" as "pending review" on the Order pages. The AVS code information will also appear with the credit card information in the Payment section of the individual order screen.

AVS Rules can help merchants assess the risk associated with a transaction and determine the appropriate course of action such as whether to approve the transaction, follow-up with the customer or issuing bank, or cancel the order.

CVV

CVV (Card Verification Value) is a system that matches the credit card number with a 3 digit security code that appears on the back of the credit card. Requiring customers to enter this additional field provides an extra level of cardholder verification. Please note: Turbify Merchant Solutions payment gateway does not support CVV for American Express.

When a customer enters the CVV number appearing on their credit card along with the credit card number, the system will check this number against the information from the issuing bank. CVV returns codes that match CVV Rules.

CVV Required

If you select this option, the CVV field will be a required field that customers must enter to complete the checkout process. If the “CVV Required” checkbox is cleared, customers can choose to enter or not to enter the CVV number in this field during checkout.

  • Code Wrong
  • System not available
  • Code is not provided or supported

Flagged orders will submit appear "flagged" as "pending review" on the Order pages. Order Minimum

Enter an amount for which all transactions at or above the AVS and CVV Rules will apply. For example, if you are worried about the risk involved with orders over $250, then you should enter $250 into the Order Minimum field. All orders below this amount will not have the rules applied but all orders at or above will have all rules applied. If you leave the Order Minimum field blank, all orders will be processed according to the rules you have set. Use your own experience as a merchant to determine the minimum level at which you wish to apply these rules. New merchants may wish to apply these rules to all orders and then personally follow up with the customer or issuing bank to verify the cardholder is valid.

Risk Tools

Risk Tools allow merchants to configure rules for marking transactions as approved or flagged based on AVS and CVV Rules set by the merchant. As a merchant, you can choose to enable or disable Risk Tools for your store. You can set an Order Minimum at which all orders will be processed according to AVS Rules and CVV Rules you set.

You can configure AVS Rules to accept or flag orders based on address and zip/postal code matches or when the system or AVS is unavailable or not supported for the card. Likewise you can set CVV Rules to accept or flag orders based on if the card security code matches or if the system or CVV is unavailable or not supported for the card.

Risk Tools are not automatically enabled for any store. Merchants need to specifically enable Risk Tools, which are only available to merchants using the new checkout flow.
