Foil Art Cards Add a little extra sparkle to those holiday cards with the help of our foil inkjet paper! It's as simple as printing part of your design onto this specially coated inkjet paper, cutting it out and pasting it to the front of your card! The silver base color of the foiljet paper picks up any color you print on it. Also looks great for photos! Or you can try a little more flair by using our holographic paper for a slightly different effect! HINT: While the holographic paper runs through the printer with no help needed, the foil paper can sometimes curl a bit and may have to be run gently over the edge of a table or counter to straighten it before you feed it into your printer. MATERIALS Foil or holographic inkjet paper (see our Products section) Cardstock Craft knife Glue stick INSTRUCTIONS 1) Open a greeting card template in your graphic software. We used a half fold card in Printmaster. 2) Design the front of your card with text, background, etc. Then design the inside of the card. 3) Figure out where you want the foil designs to go and place them on your card. 4) Once you have your card designed, save the file. Then select and copy the pieces of clipart that you want to print in foil, making certain you have checked the size of the clipart when you copy it. 5) Open a blank sheet in your graphics software and past the clipart you copied. Check to make sure the size is the same as your original and adjust if necessary. (NOTE: You can delete these pieces of clipart from the original card if you will be cutting the entire design from the foil paper. For instance, in our card with the Christmas ornaments, we left the original design so we would not have to cut the hooks out of the foil jet. In the Thanksgiving card, we deleted the maple leaves from the original card since we could cut the entire design from the foil paper.) 6) Print your design on the foil paper and let it dry. Then carefully cut the design out using a craft knife. (ANOTHER HINT: Don't make the same mistake we did once! Make sure you have a good, strong cutting board or mat under your paper or you too could wind up with a sliced tablecloth! Oops!) 7) Print your card out on the cardstock. You may decide to trim the card down so that there are no unprinted edges or you can use our Print-to-the-Edge cardstock and save yourself a little cutting. 8) Now comes the fun part...using your glue stick, place your foil designs on the front of your card. Try not to get any glue on the front of the design as this may smear the ink. If you want to play it extra safe, you can give the foil designs a quick coat of our waterproofing spray before you cut them out or glue them onto your card. There you have it! A professional looking foil-embellished card that is sure to please!
