Footed Box Greeting Card This amazing little box is not only a greeting card but can hold a small gift as well! You can use cardstock and run it through your printer to add photos and designs to the top and sides as well as the inside or you can use some lovely scrap booking papers and attach them to cardstock using a spray adhesive. There are two ways to make this box – the first way (see the picture above with the kitten on the box top) uses only two sheets of cardstock. The second way (see the silver box on the top) utilizes an additional sheet of paper glued to the inside of the box base that gives you an “explosion” effect when opened so that you can add some embellishments – like the little stickers we adhered to the crease. But it doesn’t have to be stickers! You can even print small photos and use them as well! You can even add some matching decorative tags on the top And the added embellishment of “feet” on the bottom of the box makes this a true keepsake! MATERIALS: Cardstock (flat or glossy) or scrap book papers of your choice Glue stick, craft glue or double sided tape Scissors Bone folder or paper scorer Large beads for feet Embellishments of your choice INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Measure 2-1/2 inches on all sides of the card stock (an 8-1/2-inch square), score and fold all sides inwards. This is the bottom of the box. If you will be printing color or designs on your printer draw the diagram below (or save the image by right clicking on it and open it in your graphics program and resize to 8 ½” by 8 ½”. Add your designs or text as desired to the sides and inside of the box. Just remember – if you are coloring the entire square on your printer, the outer edge of the box may fall into that nasty “unprintable” margin on your inkjet. So try printing a sample on plain paper first. 2. From each corner of the card stock, cut out a 2-1/2-inch square. (NOTE: This step is different if you are doing the box like the one with the kitten. In that case you will simply cut the corners into triangles as shown in the diagram below). 3. If you will be using the decorative paper on the inside of the box, copy the 8 ½” X 8 ½” diagram to a blank sheet in your graphics program and add whatever text and images you like. Then glue the decorative paper to the box base (optional if you wish to add the “explosion” piece as seen in the silver box above – otherwise you can skip this step). 4. Bring sides of the box together, folding the paper inward. 5. As the paper folds together, create a crease with your fingers (Photo 1 below). 6. Measure and score 1 inch on all sides of the 5-3/4" x 7-3/4" card stock. This is the lid. On the short (5-3/4-inch) sides, measure and score another inch beginning from the previous 1-inch measured mark (see diagram below). 7. Open another blank page in your graphics program and make a rectangle for the box top (or simply copy and paste the diagram below and resize so that the box top measures 5 ¾” X 7 ¾”. Add whatever images, text or color fill you wish and cut out the box top. 8. Fold all score measurements inward to form your lid. Cut four 1-inch squares from the corners. The creases will show the lines to cut the squares. On the short (5-3/4-inch) sides of the lid, cut a 1-inch tab on each side (Photo 2 below). 9. Bring the two tabs inward on the box and tape. You will fold over the end folds and tape, creating the end of the lid (Photo 3 below). Do the same method to the opposite side of the lid. Put the box and lid together. Glue beads on the bottom corners of the box for feet. 10. If you like, you can add matching tags to the box top. You can add further embellishment by adding some small gold or silver tassles (available at your craft supply store) to the bottom corners of the box top for a truly elegant look!
