Ron Paul: Obama’s ‘goal’ is economic collapse

Ron Paul, the popular Republican Congressman from Texas, is ripping into the president and Congress for what he sees as their “goal” with round after round of stimulus: complete economic collapse.
“From their spending habits, an economic collapse seems to be the goal of Congress and this administration,” he said in his June 22, 2009, weekly address.
He added that Democrats who voted for the president’s war funding request, which gave an additional $106 billion to military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq — among other, unrelated items — were actually voting in favor of the wars, not just authorization of the president’s agenda.
He called it an affront to everyone who believed a vote for Obama was a vote for a peace candidate.
The president’s insistence on including an additional $108 billion in asset exchange with the International Monetary Fund is merely “buying global oppression,” he said.
Paul added that, “this [bill sent] $660 million to Gaza, $555 million to Israel, $310 million to Egypt, $300 million to Jordan and $420 million to Mexico; and some $889 million will be sent to the United Nations for so-called peace keeping missions.”
In other words, the latest U.S. war funding was an “International bailout,” he said.
The legislation’s provisions for the IMF included 100 billion dollars for the New Arrangements to Borrow (NAB), a credit instrument providing the multilateral institution with additional resources to deal with exceptional risks to the stability of the international monetary system.
They also include an expansion of the nation’s special drawing rights by five billion SDRs, adding roughly eight billion dollars to the IMF’s financial firepower.
The 100 billion dollars for the NAB acts as a credit line for the IMF in case member countries need emergency loans that exceed the institution’s resources. As such, the money is not considered an immediate budget expense.
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) had proposed to strip out the IMF funds, but his measure was defeated in May by a vote of 64-30.
“Not only does sending money to the IMF hurt citizens here, evidence shows that it even hurts those it pretends to help,” Paul said. “Along with IMF loans come IMF required policy changes called ’structural adjustment programs,’ which amount to forced Keynesianism. This is the very fantasy-infused economic model that brought our own country to its knees.”

Paul says ’sue them’ to fix the wrongs, but if you want to sue, you need .. um.. what’s that word? .. oh, right.. laws.. made by elected officials.. laws with regard to what a company can and can not do are called.. uh.. oh, right.. REGULATIONS.. something Paul is against.
So, how do you have a legal leg to stand on if there is no law? And why should the average Joe have to spend the money and time suing AFTER they have been harmed when as “rational thinking beings” we can see how something already caused harm so we can mandate against it to prevent future harm? .. or REGULATE things.
Paul effectively advocates a State of Nature, and that’s a step _away_ from civilization. When we should all be coming together and making life _better_ for _everyone_, Paul (and his supporters) advocate chaos (that’s what would ensue) so individuals can gain as much as they want, if they are but willing to beat their fellow man over the head to take it.
Sorry, but proposing regression isn’t educated. Proposing “he with the biggest stick makes the rules” isn’t “enlightened” or civilized. Paul has some solid observations, but he just doesn’t understand the rampant abuses that would happen at the hands of the ruling elite if we had “no regulation”.. only those with money would have rights because only they could afford to take someone to court.. and as Microsoft has shown time and again, the one with the most money tends to win at court (usually by bankrupting their competition).
We do have law, its called CONSTITUTIONAL LAW! Unfortunately our leaders ignore it as if it didn’t exist which is outright treason. Circumventing the law is treason too.

Actually, “attacking other countries” is not something Obama did, nor condones. I’ve been against attacking Iraq since mid 2002 when the first drum beats from the RIGHT-WING started, precious few people in this country have been on the “right side” of that fight all along; I’m one of them.
Paul’s “ideas” of economy don’t take into account the CONSTITUTIONALLY MANDATED obligations of the government, and that is to protect the masses.
Additionally, “companies” are not people, and do NOT deserve “constitutional protections”, period. Companies are tools to be used by humans, and just like cars, rules need to apply to ensure “domestic tranquility”. That “some people” want to use “companies” to get “rich” at the expense of others is the problem, and you don’t have a constitutional right to abuse me for your own gain, PERIOD.

savanster i read you comments everyday and we generally agree with each other on just about everything. Getting into the economic weeds is dull, boring, and confusing. That is why it is best to trust the good doctor. He is light years ahead of us intellectually. Doctors are left brained people who cannot communicate very well anyhow. He may be “light years ahead of YOU”, but don’t presume that there aren’t very smart people who’ve gotten into the “dull, boring and confusing” weeds of economics. Some of us don’t actually find it dull, or boring, or confusing.. and _enjoy_ talking about such things.
Not everyone that uses the internets is an average Joe, some of us help build it, and the technologies that make it possible. Some of us are pretty scientific minded folks who mull around in “common society”; no rule or mechanism in life make you automatically “in certain circles” based on your intellect.
Getting out of Iraq isn’t one person’s purview. I don’t think Obama is doing enough, but he’s also fighting a lot of people. .. Afghanistan is a different beast, and we’re there and there is a mess to clean up. The “proper course” is beyond MY purview because I’ve not looked into the matter all that much. My gut (which should always be questioned and verified) feeling is to “get out”, but virtually nothing is “that simple”.. and with all the meddling we’ve done over there, we have some things to fix and clean up, to be sure.
As I’ve said, I don’t like where Obama is going over all, either. Nor did I vote for him, and I’ve been telling everyone for a long time not to get their hopes up.

Anyone who has been following the collapse of our economy need to deg deeper because the answers are in what happened during the Bush years with preparing our laws for this to happen. Also, I was in a family for more than 26 years who are midwest Drug Lords linked to other Drug Lords even larger than they are. They started in the later 70’s with laundering criminal money straight into property using big banks with mortgage fraud to hide ownership.
I was told in the 90’s all about the collapse of our economy. It was expected to start after “something big” happened to kick off their plans. The family is linked to a huge collection of people linked in the drug system and criminal elements within our Federal Governement. Many have been in the news for sometime.
Beleive me when I tell you that the Big Banks have been in control of what is happening to us. Also realize that when the family started their Drug Shiping business in the 90’s setting up their business was assisted by Obama while he worked in a law firm in Chicago.

There is more as lately Cheney has been in the news regarding running Special Assassination Operations. The family talked about this in the 90’s regarding using Hospitals as “Killing Machines” where those who are threatening are eliminated without anyone asking questions. I personally know someone who had a dear friend murdered in one of the hospitals in 2002 while i was being set up for the same treatment. Luckily having known about this hospital, I was able to escape any harm but it wasn’t the same for my friend’s friend. The deceased was a twin brother who is Texas’s largest political contributor. Also, be aware that the Prison system in Texas is mostly privatety run and one of the Prison owners as I understand is Cheney. The family talked about Cheney being involved in the huge Drug system. Chicago gets a weekly shipment of $100million in Cocaine that is protected by corruption from it’s point of origin to each destination. The cocaine is used to run their “Black Op’s” which is part of the Assassionation Operations and much more. This is in concert with our collapse of our economy.

I read Raw Story often, even tho I consider myself a libertarian. I am pleased with the fair treatment they usually give Dr. Paul, and hope that they continue to stay as non-partisan as possible. I realize Raw leans left, but they usually stay pretty fair. May that never change, it’s important for the national dialogue. Places like HuffPo and Drudge exist to keep the nation at war…with each other.

I guess I’d like an explanation of what that means. I’m not aware of the definition of “liberal” having changed in the past few hundred years so I don’t see how you can adhere to a different set of ideals without changing how you see things (which are your “ideas”, in this case).
I’ve seen the truism in the idea that a lot of liberals become conservatives over time, but that’s usually because they “get a good job” and make money then become consumed with the new memes they live in (being ‘I work hard for my money, that guy doesn’t need it’, or ‘government is bad, why pay taxes??!’, or some other “different idea” than they originally used to hold in their thinking).
