Meteorologists agree: man-made warming isn’t real

Andrew Bolt

What would 121 meteorologists know about the weather, anyway?

Only one in four American Meteorological Society broadcast meteorologists agrees with United Nations claims that humans are primarily responsible for recent global warming, a survey published in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society reports.

The survey results contradict the oft-repeated assertion that a consensus of scientists believes humans are causing a global warming crisis…

The American Meteorological Society (AMS) survey was limited to television weather forecasters who are also meteorologists. A prior survey of all television weather forecasters--including ones without meteorological training--produced a heavy percentage of skeptics. The new survey was designed to determine whether the meteorologists held the same opinion as the broader group of all television weather forecasters.

The survey was conducted by the congressionally funded National Environmental Education Foundation and vetted by an advisory board of climate experts from groups such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Weather Service, and Pew Center for Global Climate Change.

The AMS study found:

Only 24 percent of the survey respondents agree with United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) assertion, Most of the warming since 1950 is very likely human-induced.

Only 19 percent agree with the claim, Global climate models are reliable in their projection for a warming of the planet.

Only 19 percent agree with the assertion, Global climate models are reliable in their projections for precipitation and drought.

Only 45 percent disagree with Weather Channel cofounder John Colemans strongly worded statement, Global warming is a scam.

Hey Chuck. Not me. He he. I never fell for that scam. Not like the majority of scientists. .... they couldn’t afford to be seen unconcerned. Now they can’t afford to be seen as dupes. So much for the age of the individual.

I know that consensus or the lack of it could be important from the political reason, but this type of surveys are not part of the scientific method.

And since I have been arguing with similar surveys with the AGW crowd in the past I have to say again here that this type of surveys are irrelevant from the scientific perspective also when that support AGW sceptics.

Luckily for sceptics, there is plenty of published papers about hypotheses alternative to AGW. So we could easily use them to prove that AGW is only one of many working hypotheses and the thing like “scientific consensus on AGW” is plain lie.

AGW believers still haven’t been able to provide scientific evidence that introduction of ETS tax will have any effect on the global temperature and I think it is good to remember this simple fact when someone call for ETS as “an action on climate change”

From a scientific perspective you are quite correct.  Consensus means nothing, irrespective of the side of the argument that it is weighing against.

From a political perspective (and AGW is played out in a political theatre) the public movement of the AMS in stating consensus does have some significance.

Yep. The greatest scientific fraud in history; swallowed hook line and sinker by thickos and twits. I just pray that, unlike following the fall of the Soviet Union, the swindlers & collaborators pay the price, and the useful idiots learn a valuable lesson. I don’t hold much hope.

But the scientists in the ippc report rigged the peer review ,changed the reports after the rigged review and faked the temps ,that doesnt add up to anything like real science ,blaming humans for weather chsnges, ive never heard of anything so rediculous in my life ,the climate has always changed ,and do you notice they never once mentioned the frauds ,as biased as ever ,even if the temps rose 5 degrees its not going to be that all over the earth ,the temps even differ between suburbs, states and counries no matter what the temp is ,the poles are always around minus or colder ,they will always have 6 mths dark so will always be freezing ,c02 does not make them warmer ,according to you lot if co2 was a million times more than now you say it would melt well thats false ,c02 is still the same no matter if its winter or summer and its always been that way even before humans ,sorry dudes your busted .those emails and code tell us all .Its not about that, its about the treaties which of course they wont mention eu agenda 21, and Brigalow Corp .you have been lying to us all along.

Dear Andrew,
There was an interesting doco on the ABC on Tuesday night 26 Jan about the sudden fall of ancient Egypt around 2100 BC. The Old Kingdom that built the pyramids suddenly disappeared.  Investigating archaeologists discovered it was due to a climatic event of drought which rendered the Nile delta almost waterless for a generation.  Now my question has to be - was this due to man-made interference with the climate back in 2100 BC?  Did they have factories spewing out pollutants back then?  Perhaps they had too many cattle.  All that methane gas you know…

Elizabeth

Yes, Elizabeth, I too saw the doco. It also showed that 6000 years ago the Sahara Desert was forested, lush and green. If only KRudd and Co. had been there. They could have taxed all the ancient Egyptians and the Sahara would never have turned into sand.

Tch! Such a lost opportunity.

Milankovitch replied to Lilybeth

It just goes to show what the cost of climatic change can be - far greater than the cost of a fossil fuels tax.

Nevertheless the scientific illiterates want to stick their heads in the sand.

Russell of Geelong replied to Lilybeth
Fri 29 Jan 10 (08:51am)

As I said in Wednesdays post, the drought was caused buy high powered chariots and men building pyramids.

But jokes aside, this was a great program that showed the effects of weather movements around the earth and the effects it can have on a particular area. Notice also that a smaller drought occured in the same region eight hundred years prior as a precurser of what was to come.

The down side to this is that no one wants to align what happened then to climate change of today.

London to a brick, our BoM’s Dick Whitaker would be one meteorologist who would be encouraged by that survey.

My impression is that Dick gives consistently lucid and objective weather analyses on TV and radio.  He refuses to be drawn on dumb questions about man-made global warming or scary weather “extremes”.  He talks facts.  He may well have an opinion on hypothetical dogma, but you wouldn’t know it.

He’s a professional.  A scientist worthy of the name.

This stinking farcical lie, AGW, is dying a rather fast death.

Allow me to repeat my prediction from around the middle of last year - that “12 months from now the great big global warming racket would be finished”.

It was always too exaggerated and promoted far too fanatically by the media/enterntainer/activist class to convince those who really needed convincing - the average Joes.

And it’s ultimately impossible to sustain a lie when time allows evidence to prove you wrong.

Good riddance.

I watched O’Brien interview Rudd, or Rudd interview O’Brien just this time past. O’Brien, as we all know, poses as an intellect. Some people actually think that he is (An intellect)

In keeping with the three wise monkey principle, O’Brien has as you know, engaged in a huge diversionary campaign centered on the massive growth targets of our population, foreshadowed by Rudd.

In this evenings “interview” there was no mention of “Global Warming” or Copenhagen. You, of all people would not find that a surprise.

Adding insult, was the re-emergence of Flannery.

Now, one has to really get a grip here. Copenhagen was trumpeted by O’Brien in it’s lead up. He finally gets Rudd on his show, and makes no mention of any note but fluffs around about population growth.

The simple fact of the matter is, the politican who says this is the limit, like 150.000 immigrants a year, then that guy will win the day. Just like Abbott struck out the ETS.

Here’s his chance again. The public will be with him and the “Intellect O’Brien” will be hoist on his own Petard. His own “Masterpiece” of diversionary political tactics uncovered for what it is, another Rudd/O’Brien deflection, making O’Brien and the ABC willing tools of the Ruddites.

Hopefully, just in hope, both the ABC and their Labour mates and mentors, will sink in their own morass of control of the “serious news” of our national broadcaster. I just cant, after years of almost criminal news slanting by O’Brien and the ABC, wait for the day that O’Brien and his fellow political presenters, are shown the door in the name of truth and unbiased reporting and programming.

There must be a way in which like minded individuals sharing my views on the mal-administration of the public owned broadcaster can see that it (The ABC) is brought to account, and that it (The ABC) must....must, adhere to it’s charter of even handed broadcasting. Or, be floated on the Stock Exchange and then run as a commercial entity.

One final thing. If the ABC is owned by the public of Australia, why are the details of O’Brien’s salary suppressed? After all, we pay his wages.

The executives of all public companies, a fair comparison, have to reveal their salary packages.

Enough said.

Yep exactly. We can’t trumpet that these guys have a consesnsus but then it certainly blows the idea of consensus out of the water.

I think it’s pretty clear that we have some major worries with regard to the scientific community.

This whole sorry episode will effect the way the community looks at scientists in much the way that Watergate made Americans look at politicians differently.

Bit sad actually.

You know when todays primary aged children hit university it will be those of the left that will be teaching them of the great global warming con and somehow spinning it as it were they, the enlightened ones who exposed it for what it was.

Chris Fawkes of Melbourne (Reply)

So only one in four broadcasting AMS members also agrees with their official statement on climate change?

“Indeed, strong observational evidence and results from modelling studies indicate that, at least over the last 50 years, human activities are a major contributor to climate change....

...Prudence dictates extreme care in managing our relationship with the only planet known to be capable of sustaining human life.”

And meanwhile, our own BOM has released its statement for 2009 and the last decade. The message is clear - 2009 has been the second hottest year in Australia (2005 is the hottest) since records began in 1920. And more concerning, 2009 finished the decade as being the hottest on record. This continues the upward trend since the 1940s, and every single decade has increased in average temperature since then. Globally the last decade has also been the hottest on record.

And yes, just as the last decadal increase was predicted accurately, this next decade is predicted to be hotter than the last.

Eyrie replied to Peter Reefman

Then again there’s this:

http://strata-sphere.com/blog/index.php/archives/12532

US temperature record too noisy to draw any conclusions. Sounds about right to this former meteorologist.

I doubt the Australian record is any better and combine with a few data fiddles (Darwin etc) and you can show anything you like.

John from Bundoora replied to Peter Reefman
Fri 29 Jan 10 (09:11am)

...so what was happening in 1920 when it was nearly as hot? How is a hot spell in one part of the world PROOF of man made GLOBAL warming?
Parts of NNorthern Australia have experienced intense rainfall over the past 12 months, whilst others are in drought...it looks like we are trying to blame every bit of weather pattern to fit the one same argument.

John O replied to Peter Reefman
Fri 29 Jan 10 (09:46am)

Perhaps it will be. If January is anything to go by I would not be surprised to see 2010 as cooler then 2009. I cannot for the life of me remember a cooler summer in the last 40 odd years.

But is the warming caused by humans? Very unlikely.

Can we mitigate it? no.

Time to adapt to changed climate. That’s what humans do. we adapt.

Eccles of Goonville replied to Peter Reefman
Fri 29 Jan 10 (10:28am)

wow hottest since 1920 so the last 1,000’s of years that the human race has been on the planet just doesnt count.

So Peter can you please show us that this increase is directly linked to man made co2 emmitions and that this incrase will be apocalyptic.

Yes Peter apocalyptic.

It is certainly heartening that the AMS have published the results of the poll and interesting that it was vetted by NOAA.
