Widespread cold temperatures will continue to be the main weather story today, as an upper-level trough and large high pressure dominate much of the eastern half of the country.
Afternoon high temperatures will struggle into the single digits from the Upper Midwest, through the Midwest, into interior parts of the Northeast. This includes cities such as Milwaukee, Wis., Chicago, Ill., Pittsburgh, Pa., and Syracuse, N.Y.
Wind chill values will remain low over these areas as well, ranging from 20 to 30 below zero across parts of the Midwest and northern New England, to 10 to 20 below zero through parts of the Interior Northeast.
Highs in the Southern States will also be cold today, with 20s common in the Tennessee Valley, including Nashville, Tenn., to the 30s through the Deep South, including Atlanta, Ga.
Saturday morning will also feature another hard freeze for parts of the Deep South and northern Gulf Coast, with readings dipping into the teens and 20s for some areas.
Meanwhile, another Clipper storm will begin approaching the Upper Midwest and western Great lakes later today, with light snow developing and spreading through the region overnight. By Saturday, light snow will spread through parts of the Lower Great Lakes and Upper Ohio River Valley.
Accumulations will generally be light, ranging from 1 to 3 inches, but locally higher amounts could fall around Lake Michigan.
