POPCORN AND YOUR HEALTH
Popcorn is healthy! It is recommended by the National Cancer
Institute as a source of fiber that may reduce the risk of some cancers. The
American Dental Association includes popcorn on its list of sugar-free snacks. The
American Diabetes Association and The American Dietetic Association both permit popcorn as
a bread exchange on diets. Weight loss groups all over the nation recommend popcorn.
Popcorn prepared in our poppers is fully flavored
and tastes delicious! Popcorn helps you lose weight or maintain weight by giving you
a lot to chew, taking a long time to eat, taking up a lot of room in the stomach, taking
longer to digest, giving you natural fiber!
There has been a lot of talk about movie popcorn
being unhealthy. The reports are true, but most people don't eat enough of it to
warrant concern. Many popcorn lovers, however, eat very large amounts of microwave
popcorn without knowing that the oil contained in most microwave popcorn bags is
partially hydrogenated and contains Trans-fats (similar to saturated fats).
Hydrogenation is a man-made chemical process that turns
liquid oils into solids. It is used in margarine production, in oil for microwave
popcorn and other food products.
A recent Harvard University study published in the
American Journal of Public Health and covered extensively by the media, suggests that
diets high in Trans-fats could be partially responsible for 30,000 heart attacks annually.
Your new popcorn popper has a distinct advantage over
microwave popcorn. It requires substantially less oil to use. We recommend a
single teaspoon of a monounsaturated oil such as Canola oil (more heart healthy!) to pop a
huge bowl of popcorn. With only 4 1/2 fat grams, that's practically fat free.
Our poppers have a patented bottom stirring system that
applies a light coating of oil to each kernel. The result is delicious popcorn with
a natural, nutty, toasty taste popped to perfection watch and every time. |
MAKING
THE WORLD'S BEST POPCORN
Start with fresh
popcorn! Moisture content should be about 14%. But how does the
average person tell? Truth is you can't! that's why you must buy popcorn
fresh and keep it fresh. Buy it in busy stores. If bag is dusty or shows
evidence of age, don't buy it. If it pops beautifully, store remainder of Unpopped
popcorn in an airtight glass or jar.
First Time Usage.
the first time you use your popper, use a reasonable amount of oil (1 tablespoon
or
two). As you become comfortable with your popper, lower the oil to as low as a
single teaspoon that is about 41 calories, 4 1/2 fat grams.
Be sure to wash your
popper before using it for the first time.
EASY
CLEAN UP
If you use your popper every week, washing is not necessary. Just wipe
out with a paper towel. If used infrequently, wash in warm soapy water (use
grease-cutting liquid detergent). Air dry carefully. your popper can be washed
in the dishwasher but we recommend the wooden handles not run through the hot drying
cycle.

HERE'S
HOW TO POP STEP-BY-STEP
#1. Preheat electric stove to Medium high Gas stoves should be
set on Medium (preheating is unnecessary). Next, measure the popcorn: 1/2 cup
for the 6 quart popper and 1/3 cup for the 4 quart. IMPORTANT: Adjust
temperature as needed, so popping occurs in about 3-4 minutes. REMEMBER: Never
leave a popper on a heated unit. Never leave popping popcorn unattended.
#2. Never leave popping popcorn unattended.
#2. #2. When the stove is ready, add the oil. For
first time users, begin with one or two tablespoons. As you become familiar with the
popper and the pan becomes seasoned, you can reduce the amount of oil to as little as one
teaspoon. Put the popcorn in the popper. Start stirring slowly and evenly.
#3. The popcorn will start popping in about
two minutes, finishing in about three to four minutes. Continue stirring until corn
stops popping or until handle becomes hard to turn (forcing the handle may damage stirring
mechanism). Handle becomes hard to turn when the popper is full. REMOVE FROM
HEAT IMMEDIATELY, additional heat will ruin the popcorn.
Here's the test! All popcorn should pop into a
general "butterfly shape." If your popcorn pops into a round ball
(mushroom shape), you've popped it too hot. It will be tough and chewy.
Your popper eliminates the steam (moisture that makes the popcorn
soggy). Result? The most crispy, tender and the lightest popcorn you have ever
eaten.
What kind of oil should I use? Although and
oil will do, we recommend a monounsaturated oil such as Canola, rice bran, or olive.
Corn or peanut oil will also work well. |
IMPORTANT... READ THESE SAFETY PROCEDURES FIRST!
|
Never use the popper without oil.
Never put an empty popper on the stove. Aluminum melts at high temperatures.
Electric stove elements can generate the temperature to melt any aluminum pan.
Always add oil and popcorn before placing on the stove. Stir immediately when
the popper is on the heating unit.
Never put your face near a pan that
contains hot oil. Moisture or food might cause the hot oil to pop out of
the pan. After washing, dry all parts carefully. Allow adequate time for the
popper to air-dry before using.
Hot oil might burn and catch fire
if left to long on the heated element. Always attend to heating oil.
Never use water or liquid to extinguish
an oil fire. The safest and most effective way to put out an oil fire is
with a fire extinguisher approved for oil fires.
Never let children make popcorn without
close, careful adult supervision.
Always check to make sure lid assembly is securely fastened to pan before using popper.

TROUBLE SHOOTING
Here's help if your popper is not working well.
The stirring system jams. Stir in the opposite
direction for one turn--then continue in the proper direction. Also, TOO MUCH
popcorn can over fill the pan and jam the stirring wire. Stirring wires may need
occasional adjusting to keep them even across the bottom of the popper pan.
The popcorn is burning. #1. Chances are,
you've got the stove turned up too high. Reduce heat until you achieve perfect
popcorn. Remove the popper from the heat quickly. Most burning takes place at
the end of the popping cycle. #2. Popcorn is old and dry. Replace with
new.

Attaching lid. The lid of your popcorn popper
has been designed for easy removal and attachment. (It is very important that the
lid is securely and properly attached before using your popper). To attach:
Line lid up with pan. Push the clip on the opposite side of the handle over the lip
of the pan. Holding pan firmly, pull the clip on the handle side up towards the
handle (like squeezing a trigger) and push lid down o [an until firmly seated. To
remove: When
popper is cool, lift lid flaps up making sure that the flap with the clip on
it is loose. Holding pan firmly squeeze both clips up at the same time and pull lid
towards you.
Tough corn. This is usually cause by popcorn
that has lost its internal moisture or by popping the popcorn on too low of a
temperature. It is important that popcorn have around 14% moisture. There is
no sure way to know the moisture content. To prevent loss, buy only well-sealed bags
or jars of popcorn that have not been on the store shelf a long time. After
opening, keep in a sealed jar or container. Throw old corn away. To achieve
proper temperatures follow the instructions in this book. |
