PLEASE NOTE
Bridal apparel, Bridal gowns, bridesmaids, flower girl dresses and formal wear are international sizing and not US sizing and will fit smaller then regular day clothes. They generally fit approximately one and occasionally two sizes smaller. For instance, if you were a regular dress size 6 then you will wear an International (bridal size) size 8 (one size) or 10 (two sizes). Due to the global economy most formal wear and bridal apparel are produced on an international sizing scale. Note that custom alterations are to be expected by the consumer, especially in the length of the gown. We have set up a sizing chart to help you determine what size will be best for you.

It's very important to have the correct measurements when ordering bridal attire! You can have the measurements done by an experienced seamstress or you can measure yourself using these general guidelines!

Please note that each designer uses a different size chart so you won't be able to assume that a size 8 from one manufacturer will fit the same way a size 8 does from another manufacturer.

Have you measurements taken and then cross reference them with the size chart from the designer of the dress you've chosen. Please choose the size you feel most comfortable ordering. Keep in mind that it is much easier for a seamstress to take a dress "in" than to "let out" the seams. Not every dress can be let out. However, it's best to choose the size that will require the least alteration.

Remember!!! The final decision and responsibility on what size to order is up to you, the customer.

Bridal clothes are special order items and cannot be returned or exchanged. Because of this, it is very important to have accurate measurements before ordering your gown.

BUST
Measure around the widest part of the back, straight across the fullest part of the bust, not under the bust line. Be aware that wearing no bra versus a strapless or regular bra can make quite a difference in measurements. Do not use your bra size measurement! A girl who wears a 34A bra will have a much different bust measurement that a girl who wears a 34D! Also, please note that the time of the month that measurements are taken can cause the bust measurement to fluctuate.

WAIST
Measure around your natural waistline. Make sure you're not holding your stomach in while you take the measurement. Leave one finger under the measuring tape so that the tape can be moved. You want the dress to fit comfortably around the waist.

HIPS
Measure around the fullest part of your hips. Put your thumbs at your natural waist and rest your hands on your hips. The tips of your fingers should be the area to measure for your hips.

EXTRA LENGTH
Extra length is available for some bridal and most bridesmaid gowns and should be strongly considered if any member of the bridal party is over 5'9". The Modern Bridal Shop can consult with you on the length of the dress you're ordering and whether extra length is an option. Keep in mind the type of heel that will be worn. Shorter lengths are never available in bridesmaids. Sizes 18 and OVER, for wedding gowns is extra $50.00 and bridesmaid dress is extra $20.00.

Please be aware that sizing is not an exact science and alterations by an experienced seamstress will almost always be necessary for a proper fit.
