The newest offering in the Lovely Baby series by Raimond Lap is the first to contain lyrics. Ten original songs speak to the baby from the dad's point of view. Lap's orchestrations |
are slow paced and peaceful, almost like lullabies, while his gentle voice softly blends the lyrics with
the music. Baby gurgles, giggles and coos are aptly added to the songs with the exception of "Let's
Rock and Roll" where the addition of a toddler singing the chorus is startling for listeners. Generally
the lyrics are repeated and exclaim the joys of fatherhood. However, the lyrics are not always the strong
point as demonstrated in "Baby President" - "one day you'll be/oh so big and tall/little thing, little thing
yes/I will pay your rent/and some day/you might become President." This admirable first attempt to add
lyrics to the Lovely Baby series would be a fine addition to larger collections.
