Most of the above-mentioned nine
categories have experienced double-digit growth in output value in the last few
years, indicating growing demand for books in these categories. One outstanding
category is economy which experienced significant growth in demand due to
China’s vigorously developing economy. Output value for the category of
economy increased significantly by 30.6 percent in 2002, compared to growth
rates of 12 percent in 2001 and 18.2 percent in 2000. Demand for economy related
books is expected to continue its strong growth in the coming years in China.

average price of books published in China was RMB7.79 in 2002, up from RMB7.40
in 2001 and RMB6.86 in 2000. The
