The Best Start category is specifically for new writers and should be an engaging, coherent narrative, but does not need to be a complete story, just an important part of a story in progress. It also closes September 30. This competi
tion is open only to writers whose fiction has not appeared in a print publication with a circulation over 3,000. The best 50 pieces will each win $50 and make Glimmer Train's Best Start list.
Our thanks to all entrants (nearly a thousand!) of our first Best Start competi tion in June for letting us read your work—it was an honor! Although there were many more entries of obvious merit, we managed to whittle the list down to the 50 Best Starts.
