In this issue:
Upcoming deadlines and results:
  • The Fiction Open competition closes on September 30. First place wins $2,000 and publication in Issue 77 of Glimmer Train Stories. Second- and third-place winners receive $1,000/$600 (or, if chosen for publication, $700).

Winners and finalists of the June Fiction Open competition have been notified, and the Top-25 list is posted! Our thanks to all of you for letting us read your stories!
1st place: "Pavilion" by Ingrid Hill
2nd place: "A Day in the Life" by Adam Theron-Lee Rensch
3rd place: "Flight" by Sam Ruddick

  • The Best Start category is specifically for new writers and should be an engaging, coherent narrative, but does not need to be a complete story, just an important part of a story in progress. It also closes September 30. This competition is open only to writers whose fiction has not appeared in a print publication with a circulation over 3,000. The best 50 pieces will each win $50 and make Glimmer Train's Best Start list.

Our thanks to all entrants (nearly a thousand!) of our first Best Start competition in June for letting us read your work—it was an honor! Although there were many more entries of obvious merit, we managed to whittle the list down to the 50 Best Starts.
